After the loss of his wife, Ciro is a lost man. He wants to find the person who ran over and killed her on the road at night. In this search he loses himself, his sense of time and the possibility of allowing his 13-year-old son Luigi to live a normal life. The boy is thus forced to grow up fast to keep his father from descending into hell.
