The main characters, the spouses Grigory and Raisa Groshin, live in the village of Zaprudy, their daughter studies at the regional center, and they themselves are engaged in farming, breeding steers. They live like everyone else, the old love is gone, money is constantly in short supply, and it's not easy to develop a farm because of crooked officials and bankers.
